CRANS MONTANA, Switzerland -- France's Julien Quesne moved into the lead of the Omega European Masters after he shot a second-round 65 on Friday.

The 32-year-old moved ahead of England's Danny Willett with 6 under par for the day and 9 under par overall to earn a one-shot lead.

Quesne, who claimed his first European Tour title at the Andalucia Open in March, fired seven birdies as he edged into the lead.

"I took a lot of pleasure from how I played today," Quesne said. "I hit so many good shots; I managed to stay calm and I holed a lot of putts.

"My final round in Andalucia was the best of my career, because it was under a lot of pressure," he added. "But today was probably my second best, because the conditions were very tough and I hardly missed a shot. So I'm very happy."

Scotland's Paul Lawrie scored 66 to move into third ahead of Englishman David Howell, who mixed four birdies with three bogeys at Crans-sur-Sierre in the Swiss Alps. Lawrie, part of the European Ryder Cup Team and the winner of last week's Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, was satisfied with his current form.

"I played lovely again today, hit a lot of good putts -- not all of them went in, but a fair few did," he said. "So I'm very happy with my day's work, despite the weather.

"A lot of guys don't like playing in the cold and the wet, but that plays into the hands of people like me who don't mind it," he explained. "I've had a couple of decent sleeps, so I feel fine and raring to go. There's a nice, relaxed feel to this week anyway, which always helps."

Tommy Fleetwood and Robert Coles were also 6 under par after the first two rounds, tied with Howell and Australian Marcus Fraser.

Frenchman Romain Wattel finished 5 under par for the day and was tied for eighth with Scotland's Richie Ramsay and three others at the end of the day's play. Ramsay completed the course in a 3-under 68 with five birdies and two dropped shots.

Overnight leader Gregory Bourdy had a miserable day, however. He picked up a shot at the first but carded five bogeys to score a 4-over-par 75 and drop four shots off the lead.

Ravens safety tells BR.com about his slam dunking ability and his love for cheese curds.


Recently, BR.com caught up with fourth-year safety Jim Leonhard – a Ravens offseason free agent signee who grew up in Tony, Wisconsin – and learned a little about his off-the-field life.

BR.com: You won a couple slam dunk contests in college. What was the situation?

Jim Leonhard: “That was offseason of my freshman year and sophomore year. During offseason conditioning for football, they threw us a bone. We’d have free throw competitions and dunk competitions. One of the last sessions before spring ball, they always kind of gave us a break and did something fun.”

How old were you when you first dunked?

“I was a freshman in high school. I was playing summer league basketball, and one day during a tournament it just kind of happened. I just went up, and it felt good.”

Who was a role model for you growing up?

“A lot of people, but I think it all started out with my brother, Brian, who’s a couple years older than I am. I was a young kid trying to play with him and all his friends. It was nice to have someone ahead of me to push me to get better.”

How do you pass your time off the field?

“I like to relax off the field. I love playing golf in the offseason. Other than that, I just relax with my wife, Katie. We just bought a place back in Madison, Wisconsin. We’re pretty low-key – go to movies and restaurants.”

Have you been married long?

“I’ve been married for a year. I got married last summer in June right after OTAs, so it was nice to get the family together and a bunch of friends and people I haven’t seen in awhile. She’s from just outside of Atlanta, so we got married down there.”

What movies have you seen recently?

“I saw Pineapple Express the other day. That was a funny movie. The new Batman movie was unbelievable. The Joker was incredible. Heath Ledger did an unbelievable job, and it’s unfortunate what happened to him.”

You mentioned going to restaurants, too. Did you find some good wing spots when you played in Buffalo?

“There are a lot of places for good wings. The one where they originated – Anchor Bar – it’s definitely a place you’ve got to check out early. There’s no shortage of wings in Buffalo.”

Being a Wisconsinite, what’s your cheese of choice?

"I’m actually not a huge cheese guy, but I love cheese curds. I’ve got to stick to my roots.”

　富山県にある八尾カントリークラブで開催されている、国内女子ツアー「日医工女子オープン」の最終日。

　2位タイスタートの上原彩子が、出だしの1番から怒涛の5連続バーディを奪い一気に首位へ浮上。7番でもバーディを奪った上原は、9番もバーディとし前半は“29”。トータル17アンダーまでスコアを伸ばしている。

　3打差のトータル14アンダー2位は宋ボベ(韓国)、トータル10アンダー3位には黄アルム(ファン・アルム)(韓国)がつけている。

　その横峯と3打差の通算9アンダー単独2位には韓国のアン・ソンジュ。続く通算8アンダー3位タイには上田桃子とフォン・シャンシャン（中国）がつけた。

　国内女子ツアー「マスターズGCレディース」の最終日。2位に5打差をつけてトータル11アンダーの単独首位からスタートした横峯さくらが4バーディ・3ボギーの“71”でスコアを1つ伸ばし、トータル12アンダーで逃げ切り優勝を飾った。横峯は今季3勝目で獲得賞金も1億円を突破。森田理香子との賞金額も約380万円差まで縮め、残り5試合での逆転賞金女王をグッと引き寄せた。

　数字を見れば圧勝だが苦しい一日だった。「今日は1番ホールから緊張していて、本当に5打差あってよかったという感じ」という言葉通り、1番のティショットはいきなり右に大きく曲げるミス。これまで何度も経験してきた優勝争いだが、「今回は1番から緊張しているのを受け入れながらプレーするという、また違った1日だった」と新たな挑戦への緊張感に包まれてティオフした。

　だが、8月から帯同している森川陽太郎メンタルトレーナーから前日に「明日は全部パーのつもりでいいよ。バーディ獲れたら貯金だと思って、ボギー打っても慌てないように」とアドバイスを受けて、緊張感の中でも落ち着いた精神状態でプレー。5番でボギーが先行するも、「ヘッドアップしないように」といつものチェックポイントを冷静に見直して6番、7番と連続バーディ。落ち着きを取り戻した。

　15番を迎えた時点ではアン・ソンジュ(韓国)に2打差まで詰め寄られたが、「いつもなら“2打差だ”と思ってしまうけど、今回は例え追いつかれても18番を迎えたところで1打でも勝っていればいいというスタンスでやっていた」と最後まで心に波を作ることなくプレー。最終ホールはボギーとしたのはご愛嬌だが盤石の逃げ切りだった。

　この勝利によって逆転女王の可能性が高まってきた横峯だが、報道陣から森田に約380万円差に詰め寄ったことを聞かされても「へーそーなんですね。景気のいい話で(笑)」とまるで他人事。「今は若い子に任せればいいかなという感じ。私は自分のスタイルでプレーできれば」と、最後まで2度目の女王戴冠に関心を見せることはなかった。

　それでも、今年からは試合後に必ず整体院に通って長年のプレーによってゆがんだ体のケアをするなど、これまではしてこなかったコンディショニングにも気をはらうようになった。試合中の心の動きもメンタルトレーニングにより管理するなどゴルフに対する姿勢が実を結んだ優勝。ゴルファーとしての円熟期を迎えた横峯は力強く頂点へ突き進んでいく。

　国内女子ツアー「マスターズGCレディース」の最終日。5位タイからスタートした上田桃子はこの日4バーディ・1ボギーの“68”で回りトータル8アンダーでフィニッシュ。フォン・シャンシャン(中国)と並んで3位タイに食い込んで競技を終えた。

　この上位フィニッシュにより上田は賞金ランキング55位に浮上。50位までに与えられる来季の国内ツアー賞金シード確保へ大きく前進した。さらに、今大会で3位に入ったことで次週「森永製菓ウィダーレディス」への出場権も自動的に獲得。当初は推薦での出場予定だったが、年間8試合までと定められている最後の推薦枠を他のトーナメントに回せるためシード確保のチャンスが2試合に広がった。

　「15番からはそこ(出場権)は意識していました。16番、17番は今日は良くガマンできたキーホールだと思う」。前日の夜はイメージトレーニングで逆転優勝を思い描いてスタートはしたが、前半足踏みが続くと中盤の取りこぼしなどもありトップの背中は最後まで見えなかった。

　それでも、次戦の出場権を得る3位以内という目標を見据えた終盤は2つのバーディで上位に肉薄。決めればトータル9アンダーに浮上する18番のバーディパットは決めきれず悔しさを隠さなかったが、同スコアで並んだフォンがスコアを伸ばせなかった事を確認すると「ヨシ」と胸をなでおろした。

　「ずっと崖っぷちですから。そういう中でやっていれば強くなるし、そういう状態で自分らしいゴルフをして結果を出したい」。残るチャンスは2試合。勝負強さを発揮できるか。

【上田桃子に適用されたルール】
2007年に辻村明日香が「ダイキンオーキッドレディス」で2位になりながら次戦に出場できなかったのを受けて、翌08年から3位までに入れば次週の試合の出場権を得られるようになった。きっかけとなった辻村の愛称から“あすみんルール”とも呼ばれる。

　国内女子ツアー「マスターズGCレディース」を終えて、これまで森田理香子が大差をつけてリードしてきた賞金女王争いが混沌としてきた。同大会を制して今季3勝目を挙げた横峯さくらと森田の差は約380万円。残り5試合で十分にひっくり返る差だ。

　森田はこの日3バーディ・3ボギー・1ダブルボギーの“75”とスコアを落とし、トータル1アンダーの21位タイで競技を終えた。立ち上がりの3ホールで4つスコアを落としたことが最後まで尾を引いて苦しい一日。横峯が1,890万円を荒稼ぎしたのに対し、自身は上積みが出来ず賞金差が縮まったことについては「今、それを言わないでください。特に意識はないです」とさえぎった。

　一方の横峯も「(女王は)届かないところではない」としながらも、「今はちょっと近づいただけという感じ」と女王争いに関しては現時点では無関心を貫いた。それでも、「1回目はラッキーとか実力以上のものと勢いでなれた。2回できれば本物」と2度目の女王への意欲を完全に消してはいない。

　もし横峯が女王に輝けば、最大約4,338万円差をひっくり返す史上2番目(1位：09年横峯約4,390万円差)の逆転劇。勢いに加え終盤は横峯の優勝経験のあるトーナメントが続くだけにその争いは一層激しさを増していきそうだ。
